Tree removal methods
Tree falling, or felling, is the process of cutting a tree at the base, and letting the whole tree fall to the ground. It is often the easiest and most inexpensive way to remove a tree. Felling can also be the safest method of tree removal, yet there is potential for catastrophic damage if not done properly. How the felling notch is formed, manner in which the back cut is made, and methods for overcoming back and side lean are all major factors determining the success of a tree felling procedure. While this procedure might be the quickest way to get a tree on the ground, it often requires the greatest amount of clean up on site. The ground may be depressed and branches quite often are impaled straight into the ground.
The most frequently performed tree removal technique in our area involves one of our staff removing all of the branches on a tree as he encounters them on the ascent up the trunk of a tree. When he reaches the top of the tree, a felling cut is made and the upper portion of the trunk falls to the ground. The arborist then begins to cut and push sections of wood from the trunk, letting them free fall to the ground below. The arborist usually stops when the remaining trunk is short enough to be safely felled.
Spar pole rigging
Spar pole rigging is different from the traditional tree removal technique, in that after the branches have been trimmed from the trunk, the top and subsequent pieces of wood are caught by a rigging rope and lowered to the ground by our team. Once the determination is made to rig pieces out of a tree, factors of safety become critical in this tree care operation. The weight of wood and the structural strength of the rigging point are two of the factors considered by our team.
Stumps are an eyesore, and can also be dangerous. Grass and weeds can grow around stumps, making them difficult to see, thus becoming a tripping hazard, and they can also damage lawn mowers and other lawn equipment. At Wright tree service, we have the equipment to grind your stump below ground level, making for a beautiful, safe environment for you and your family.
Tree pruning is the most common treatment we perform on trees. You may be mowing a lawn and find yourself having to duck under some low hanging branches. The wind may be causing branches of a tree to rub against your window. You may be unable to see past a shrub planted just outside of your living room window. All of these are reasons for pruning trees and shrubs.
Professional tree pruning begins with an understanding of tree biology. Questions such as, how much to prune, when is the best time to prune, and why you should prune a tree, should all be considered before hiring a tree service proffesional to prune your tree.
Tree Pruning Methods
Crown cleaning is the pruning or thinning of dead, damaged, and diseased branches from the living canopy of a tree. It is the most common tree pruning type arborists perform. We will be be careful to correctly define the scope of work prior to pruning a tree to ensure that the tree remains healthy.
Crown raising is pruning the lowest branches off a tree to create more space for people and vehicles, to improve views under a tree, and to enhance light penetration. At Wright Tree Service, we perform this work frequently. This type of pruning helps us to make a big tree fit in a smaller yard.
Crown reduction is the process of reducing the overall dimensions of a tree. It is most often employed to reduce risk of trunk failure as part of a long term tree pruning maintenance program. The tree will still be able to retain a natural appearnce while creating a smaller canopy and stress on the trunk will be greatly reduced, making for a healthy happy tree.
Proper pruning enhances the beauty of almost any landscape shrub, while improper pruning can ruin or greatly reduce its landscape potential. In most cases, it is better not to prune than to do it incorrectly. In nature, plants go years with little or no pruning, but man can ruin what nature has created. By using improper pruning methods healthy plants are often weakened or deformed. In nature, every plant eventually is pruned in some manner. It may be a simple matter of low branches being shaded by higher ones resulting in the formation of a collar around the base of the branch restricting the flow of moisture and nutrients. Eventually the leaves wither and die and the branch then drops off in a high wind or storm. Often, tender new branches of small plants are broken off by wild animals in their quest for food. In the long run, a plant growing naturally assumes the shape that allows it to make the best use of light in a given location and climate. All one needs to do to appreciate a plant’s ability to adapt itself to a location is to walk into a wilderness and see the beauty of natural growing plants.
